Yiddish stories and an introduction to the history of the Shoah for children
The site introduces children to the Jewish culture though folk tales and stories. It also aims to help teach the very young about the Shoah.
Without concealing the fate of European Jews assassinated by Nazi Germany and its allies, Sarah's attic approaches the Shoah indirectly through the destinies of seven Jewish children. It provides some keys to understanding Judaism, the Yiddish culture and a world the Shoah destroyed forever.
An introduction to pre-war Jewish culture A choice of stories, a word-based game and Jewish sounds and traditions offer a first taste of often unfamiliar Jewish culture.
The stories of children having experienced the war
Sarah's attic also tells of Jewish children's lives during the war. The site recounts the experiences of children who were in hiding or deported without dwelling on the world of the Nazi concentration or extermination camps. The testimony of Anne Franck addresses issues of exile and secrecy. While mindful of the sensitivity of primary school children, Sarah's attic offers an introduction to the history of the Shoah and the Second World War.
Children and teachers wishing to learn more about this period in history can do so in various ways: a bibliography, access to further learning or additional resources for teaching staff.
